The OUTDOOR BONSAI varieties in our nursery are indigenous to our Pacific Northwest region and need the cold winter to go dormant. Protect your trees from extreme cold, wind, hot sun and heat and keep the soil moist. Your outdoor bonsai may be brought indoors in the spring and summer, but only for up to 7 days It then must go back outdoors for at least 2 weeks. If you keep an outdoor tree inside, it will die.
Most of the INDOOR BONSAI we sell at our nursery come from the tropic/sub tropic area of China. These trees will do well if kept at temps between 50-80ºF. In the winter it is suitable for your living room or office. In the spring or summer it will do fine indoors as well, or will be happy to sit outside on a deck or patio. Place in a bright area, but avoid direct afternoon sunlight to prevent withering. Water roots and spray leaves daily. If you forget to water and soil becomes dry, simply submerge the bonsai in water to the rim of the pot and allow to soak for 10 minutes. Remove from water and allow to drain.
Your bonsai may be fertilized with a general household plant fertilizer diluted by one-fourth
the recommended usage and applied every 2-3 weeks. Regularly prune to keep the tree small and maintain its original shape.
